Bruins Defeat USC on Senior Day, 13-5 - Apr 19, 2009

The UCLA Men's Lacrosse team (5-7, 2-3 SLC North) emerged victorious in the latest chapter of Los Angeles' cross-town rivalry, toppling USC (3-13, 0-5) by a 13-5 score. In front of well over 100 fans, the Bruins honored seniors Scott Harris, Shane Robinson, and Max Van Broek, and turned in an entire team effort to improve to 15-4 all time against the Trojans.

The Bruins opened the scoring with an Andrew Morris quickstick of JR Borneman's feed.  Kyle Packan followed with a goal off of a rebound ground ball on the crease, and Yang Zheng fed Ryan Menefee to put UCLA up 3-0 early.  The teams traded goals to close out the first quarter with UCLA leading 4-1.

Scott Harris scored UCLA's lone goal of the second quarter.  It was quickly answered by USC's Corey Janoff, for a 5-2 halftime tally.

Janoff scored again to open the second half.  UCLA would respond with a solo effort from Borneman, followed by Menefee's second goal, assisted by Morris.  USC cut the lead to 7-4, only to surrender goals to Packan, Seb Croft, and Victor Poon in succession.

USC added one more in the fourth, sandwiched by Poon's goal from Borneman, Menefee's third from Morris, and another Poon goal assisted by Shane Robinson.

Goalie Dimitri Hajimihalis worked with Doug Roche, Tim White, and Max Van Broek, who played outstanding close defense for the Bruins, limiting USC's attack.  Darren Lepere, Trevor Kilroy, and Benji Rosen did an excellent job at shortstick defensive midfield.

The Bruins end their season having won two consecutive division games, and four out of the last five overall.  This is UCLA's first win over USC since 2006, and first home rivalry win since 2003.
